MEET RICHARD RAMSEY
Richard Ramsey was born and raised in Amherst, Ohio. He was a musician and an athlete, playing drums, football, wrestling, and track and field. His parents are Rob and Tree Trace of Amherst.
Rich graduated from Steele High School in 1996 and began studying at Capital University, in Columbus, Ohio. Rich obtained a bachelor of arts from Capital, majoring in public administration and minoring in management. That education would later come in handy while managing his own law practice and government departments.
While attending college at Capital, Rich began his career in the legal field. First, he worked for the career services office of the Capital University Law School. This led to his first job with an attorney’s office, working as a law clerk for Harvey Samuels. Rich monitored Harvey’s civil collection practice while Harvey focused primarily on his family law practice. Both areas of law served Rich well once he began his studies at law school.
While also at Capital, Rich met his future wife, Helen. She is a native of Lorain and the daughter of Terry and Kit MacDougall. When Rich and Helen began dating she was studying nursing at the Lorain County Community College. She later completed her studies and has been a Registered Nurse for more than twenty years.
Rich graduated from Capital University and then attended Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. While attending law school, Rich focused on the practical application of law, studying mediation, client counseling, and taking several externships, including working for the Housing Advocates and the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio, Eastern Division.
Those experiences gave Rich the courage to open his own law practice. When finally receiving the bar exam results in 2003, and learning that Rich was now a licensed attorney, Rich asked Helen what he should do. Helen asked, “what do you want to do?” Rich said, “I’d like to have my own practice.” Helen said, “do that now; we’re used to not having money now.”
In their more than twenty years together, Rich and Helen have raised two children, Matthew and Joseph. Matthew is currently studying business at Kent State University and Joseph just graduated from Firelands High School.
Rich is currently serving as Treasurer of the City of Amherst, Ohio and continues to manage his private law practice. Helen continues to work in the Coronary Cath Lab at St. John Medical Center in Westlake, Ohio.
And Rich still plays drums.
